Welcome to Decatur Montessori School!

We are Najee and Sesealy Owens, the proud owners of Decatur Montessori School. We are the parents to three amazing kids, Janius (16), Naheem (13), and Melody (8). As a family, we enjoy traveling, reading, cooking, and our favorite, family game nights.



Prior to making the decision to become owners of DMS, we worked in corporate America, with several years of experience in Real Estate Investing, Banking, Marketing and Operations. Although we enjoyed our time in these fields, we both come from families of educators and knew one day we would follow in their footsteps. As working parents, we understand how important and challenging it is to find a safe, nurturing and growth mind-set environment for your children.

Being enthusiasts of Maria Montessori, we fell in love with Decatur Montessori School when we learned about the rich history of the school, the curriculum, and mostly, the long time teachers and staff. Decatur Montessori School provides a safe community that stimulates the child’s natural curiosity to learn. We foster your child’s individuality and focus on independence, compassion, collaboration, and critical thinking, which then prepares him or her to take on the future with confidence.

We are so excited to have joined this community of staff, teachers, children, and families. This has been a rewarding, fulfilling journey of enabling our future generations to make a difference in the community and world at large. We pledge to provide every child in our school with a safe, loving and compassionate community in which they will flourish and learn the skills that will propel them to success in their lives ahead.
